14 Session Memory Treatment Programme

Our 14 Session Memory Treatment Program uses Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST). CST is an evidence-based treatment which has been shown to be as effective in the treatment of cognition (thinking) as the dementia drugs currently available. CST is particularly effective with language skills and comprehension and has also shown to increase quality of life.

Have you had a diagnosis of dementia rock your world?

Are you feeling anxious about the future, unprepared, unknowledgeable and unsure? Whether it is you or a loved one, you will know that a diagnosis of dementia can be devastating. It is hard to know what’s best to do in the early stages.

At Memory Matters, we don’t see a life with dementia through the filter of loss of ability but rather through a filter of possibility. Whilst we are always ready to step into your world and see it from your perspective, we will also help you to see some different ones too.

We want to reassure you that a diagnosis of dementia does not need to mean a future of depression and hopelessness. With us you will experience new conversation, connections which spark laughter and enjoyment. With the right support, people living with dementia and their loved ones can thrive and we are on a mission to help this happen.

During the first weeks of the COVID crisis, Our social enterprise, Memory Matters™ South West CIC (based i n Plymouth, England) worked quickly to move their community Memory Treatment Groups online. Whilst many said i t wasn’t possible, we believed we had nothing to lose.

Our programs have been creating an impact for the last 10 years in our local community and now we have spent a year supporting people online and we know it translates. Our program incorporates CST – the only evidence-based psychosocial therapy available for dementia and recommended by the UK’s National Institute of Health and Care Excellence.

Being in a small group with others who are experiencing the same sorts of challenges i s powerful and we see people grow in confidence week on week. Here are some of the outcomes we have seen from those that have participated in our program:

  • 74% reported increased confidence
  • 96% made new friends
  • 64% experienced improved mental and emotional well-being
  • 73% improved their quality of life
